There is no such test made, but the long-standing New England traditional coastal buildings have proven that Eastern white cedar shingles keep out wind-driven coastal storms and resist to freeze/thaw cycle. If you want a stronger protection against wind, you can do this by lowering the exposure to 4” when installing the shingles.

A shingle less than 8” wide should receive only two fasteners (about 3/4” from each edge and 1” above the butt-line or overlapping shingles). However, a shingle of 8” and wider should receive four fasteners. The extra two fasteners should be placed near the center of the shingle, about an inch apart.
